Shed Stories by Casson & Friends

Theatre, documentary & dance combine to celebrate men’s sheds and the communities around them.

Shed Stories is a new performance from Casson & Friends, inspired by interviews with Shedders of all ages. The show combines compelling movement with human, humorous and heartwarming tales of making sawdust, friends, and cups of tea!

Watch the trailer of this show here: Shed Stories

What are 'men’s sheds’?

Men’s Sheds are community spaces where men can pursue practical skills including making and mending, but crucially offering a social space for men with similar interests to be together - rather than alone. These spaces not only offer somewhere to develop and share skills, but build vital social connections and friendships that can improve mental health and reduce the risk of loneliness & isolation.

About the production

Shed Stories has been created through a series of visits, workshops & residencies at Sheds, Arts and Community Spaces in Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, Essex, Lincolnshire, Staffordshire and North Yorkshire throughout late 2024/early 2025.

Interviewing & co-creating with shedders, shed organisers and other experts, Casson & Friends have created a performance that is authentic, celebratory and helps to raise awareness of the importance of these spaces - even generating new shed members!

The Phantom of the Opera – Silent Film with Live Music by Minima

Join us for a one of a kind celebration marking 100 years of one of the greatest silent films ever made: The Phantom of the Opera (1925), brought to life with a mesmerising live soundtrack by the renowned quartet Minima.

Get a glimpse of the experience here: The Phantom of the Opera

Featuring the incomparable Lon Chaney, famously dubbed the “Man of a Thousand Faces,” this atmospheric classic tells the haunting story of a mysterious figure lurking beneath the Paris Opera House, fuelled by obsession, vengeance, and a yearning for love. Enhanced with vivid tinted scenes and a rare Technicolor segment, the film remains a landmark of early cinema.

Minima, known for their compelling modern scores to silent film, will perform live on stage, blending a mix of instruments to create an intense, immersive soundscape. With past performances at esteemed locations including BFI Southbank, Glastonbury Festival, and the Barbican Centre, their interpretations bring fresh intensity to early cinema’s most evocative images.

Don’t miss this unique chance to experience The Phantom of the Opera the way it was originally intended: on the big screen, elevated by a gripping live score that captures every shadow and twist of this gothic tale.

Stories in the Dust by Anna Harriott & Iona Johnson

With live music, puppetry and clowning, Stories in the Dust is a funny, heartfelt eco-fable that takes you to another world.

Two intrepid explorers travel across a mysterious landscape, they're full of ideas and full of hope but dangerously low on baked beans.

Watch the show trailer here: Stories in the Dust

About the show:

The sun beats down on two travellers, journeying across a mysterious land in a contraption they've built themselves. They sing, play games, and tell stories inspired by a collection of precious things they've gathered from a time gone by.

With live music and puppetry, Stories in the Dust is a funny, heartfelt and hopeful eco-fable that takes you to another world. A world where an ancient book guides your way, a drop of rain changes everything and a mighty lion holds its secrets in an old clay pot.

Will our intrepid explorers make it? They're full of ideas and full of hope but dangerously low on baked beans.

Stories in the Dustwas originally created with support from MAST Mayflower Studios and shared at their Emergency Festival. It was developed thanks to public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England in partnership with Pound Arts and Wiltshire Creative

Looking to get an insight into new ways of making theatre? Join The PappyShow for a practical workshop exploring their approach to creating and devising work.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from a company who are at the forefront of physical theatre and collaborative work, thinking carefully about the stories we tell and how we tell them.

When you use your voice and lived experience to create, you are giving the world a gift that only you can give. So celebrate yourself and your ability to create something beautiful and unique. The PappyShow's approach centres Joy and Play thinking specifically about carving out spaces to lean into these experiences.

Through this workshop, you will gain a better understanding of how these approaches can be used to improve your own work and movement experiences.

This workshop is suitable for adults of all levels. No previous theatre-making/performing experience necessary. Performers, Directors, Teachers, Makers, Dancers, Writers, Devisors, Movement Directors and those curious to start creating.

Restoke are hosting this free workshop as part of our Moving Roots collaboration with The PappyShow who will be recreating their show What Do You See? in Stoke-on-Trent.
