MAN UP -

MALE DANCE ARTIST

Restoke are looking for a male dance artist to join the creative team for Man Up, a ground-breaking project in Stoke-on-Trent looking at masculinity and mental health. The project aims to engage more men in the performing arts and co-create a performance, driven by the experiences of the participants.

Role

- Running taster workshops for men in the community Jan - March 2018

- Participating in the research and development of a new performance and bringing other people's ideas to life April - June 2018

- Rehearsing and performing in Man Up alongside a combined cast of community and professional performers June - August 2018

- Co-creation is key to Restoke's work. All artists will engage with the participants’ journeys throughout the project, supporting their involvement in every aspect of the work, as well as responding artistically to the subject matter and stories which arise.

Specifications

We are looking for a male dance artist with a high level of training in dance or physical theatre and at least 5 years experience of working with community participants.

You must be:

An experienced leader
An excellent listener
A confident devisor
An engaging performer
Based within a reasonable distance of Stoke-on-Trent in order to travel in for workshops and rehearsals.

Fee

£4500 inclusive of travel and all other expenses (based on 30 days at £150 per day)

The project aims to engage more men in the performing arts and co-create a performance, driven by the experiences of the participants.

Role

- Running taster workshops for men in the community Jan - March 2018

- Participating in the research and development of a new performance and bringing other people's ideas to life April - June 2018

- Producing spoken-word content, rehearsing, and performing in Man Up alongside a combined cast of community and professional performers June - August 2018

- Co-creation is key to Restoke's work. All artists will engage with the participants’ journeys throughout the project, supporting their involvement in every aspect of the work, as well as responding artistically to the subject matter and stories which arise.

Specifications

We are looking for a highly-skilled male spoken-word artist and writer with experience of working with community participation.

You MUST be:

An excellent listener
A confident devisor
An experienced writer
An engaging performer
Based within a reasonable distance of Stoke-on-Trent in order to travel in for workshops and rehearsals

Man Up offers the chance to see your ideas and experiences brought to life in a landmark performance event. Join us to start the conversation at one of our open meetings in November:

- Saturday 18th November 2-4pm Pot Bank cafe, Spode Works, Elenora Street, Stoke Town, ST4 1QE

- Wednesday 29th November 7-9pm Baker & Co Cafe, Fenton Town Hall, Gimson Street, Fenton, ST4 3FF

At these open meetings we will:

- Talk about Restoke's work

- what we do and examples of our previous projects

- Discuss our plans for Man Up & the ways you could take part

- Answer any questions

- Collect your initial thoughts and ideas about the project
